Everyone, Regarding the skatepark discussion: The last meeting went really well, and the need for a skatepark downtown was put high on the list thanks to the skateboarders that went (about 12).
The meetings next week are even more important. Monday and Tuesday of the week long meetings will build the framework for the rest of the week.
Let's get over 100 people in support of downtown skateparks to go. We need to make it so they really see a need for this, and we can't be overlooked.
Keep in mind, we're working with the city on this, not against them. So let's keep this friendly dialogue. It's cool how many city officials are really behind us on this.
This event is planned to start at Monday, March 16, 2009 12:00 p.m. Location: W. Dale Clark Library.
UPDATE: Just to clarify times. Monday and Tuesday (March 16 + 17) from 6-8pm will be the most important days to be there.
Please bring as many people as you can, and tell everyone you know.
If you can't make it, be sure to leave a comment, saying we need a safe place for people to skateboard in downtown Omaha on the wall here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=55724671403
A couple of us older guys went to the first meeting last night. Not much was discussed that pertained to the possibility of skateparks downtown. It sounded like the best chance to make the case for a downtown park or parks would be TONIGHT (March 17, 2009 - St. Pat's Day). Last night was mostly just some planners setting out various concepts, tonight will be the chance for real community input as to how to improve or modify those concepts. So, GO TONIGHT, if at all possible!
